Wayne Central School Library Media Center Mission

The mission of the Wayne Central School Library is to extend classroom learning by providing access to materials and resources that will inspire and enrich student learning.  Utilization of library resources by students affords them the opportunity to develop research skills that will allow them to become lifelong learners and readers.

 

Wayne Central School Library Vision Statement

            The vision for the Wayne Central School library is to be an educational center that extends classroom instruction and provides materials and resources that will enhance and enrich student learning.  This will be accomplished by providing a welcoming environment that affords students and teachers the ability to retrieve information using print and online resources.  Print material will meet or exceed minimum certification standards.  Staffing will also meet or exceed minimum certification standards. 

 

Operational Procedures

Hours of Operation

The Wayne Central School Library Media Center is opened Monday-Friday from 7:10 a.m. until 2:20 p.m. Students have the opportunity to use the library for independent study and personal use. Classes are scheduled for visits during the week.   

Scheduling Policy

Classes will be scheduled in the library for library skills, research or class projects. These class times will be scheduled by the school library media specialist and the teacher.

Wayne Central School Library serves PreK  through 8th grade students.


 

Destiny Library Software

 The library catalog is maintained on our Wayne Central School Desitny Portal Webpage. Students in grades 3rd-8th are able to log into his or her account at the library and see which books are checked out, place holds on books and search for new titles. Tutorials will be available soon. 

eBooks 

  • There are many ebooks available from our library.  To see what we have follow this link.

  • Select Wayne Central School

  • Change material type to Electronic eBooks

  • Press enter.  This will bring up a list of available eBooks.  Click open on the book you want to read.  If a password is required, use your regular school password.

  • You can also read books online using the Tumblebooks link above.

 

Circulation Policies

  • K-1st grade students may check out 2 items at a time. 2nd-8th graders may check out 2 to 3 items at one time.

  • Items are checked out for a period of 2 weeks.

  • Items may be renewed if the student still needs item.

  • Reference books, such as encyclopedias and dictionaries are to be used only in the library, unless teachers check out these items for classroom use only.

Overdue Materials

  • Students with an overdue book may not check out additional materials until the overdue book is returned.

  • All students are responsible for any books checked out in their names.

  • Notices will be sent to students in homeroom for books that are overdue.

  • Items overdue by three months are considered lost and require immediate payment for replacement.

    Lost Materials

  • Lost materials are charged the cost of the item.

  • Returning students will not be allowed to borrow materials until fines are paid and lost books replaced. Minor repairs will be performed as needed; however, patrons who have damaged items beyond repair will be expected to pay the replacement costs of the item.
